Cubs Prior might be done for the season
The Chicago Cubs started the season deep in pitching. The Greg Maddux signed onto a rotation that already included Kerry Wood, Mark Prior and Matt Clement. Mark Prior though has been nursing injuries to his right elbow and achilles tendon and the Cubs believe there is a chance that he might be done for the season. He will continue to pitch lightly off the mound as speculation about his future status continues to swirl in the windy city.
McGwire on the recent steroids scandal
Mark McGwire threw out the first pitch this week for a Cardinals vs Rockies game at Bush Stadium and actually didn't have much to say about the steroid scandal. McGwire admitted to using the legal prohormone androstenedione in 1998, a year he hit a then record 70 homeruns. He also created some buzz by using various other sports supplements like creatine. The mark was ecliped by Barry Bonds in 2001 when he hit 73 homeruns. McWire admitted to quitting the supplement the following year as he did not want to give kids the wrong impression. It seems though that many other major league players did not share this concern, possibly going in for drugs/supplements that were illegal or certainly on the 'fringe'.
