Barry Bonds joins 700 homerun club

On Firday evening Barry Bonds became part of the exclusive 700 home run club - joining only Babe Ruth (714) and Hank Aaron (755). Also joining Bonds as an etrant in the history books was pitcher Jake Peavy of the San Diego Padres who allowed the historic homer. Bonds pounced on Peavy's 0-1 curveball and sent it a couple rows deep in the left-center field bleachers, for a 392-foot solo shot and became the first player to reach 700 homeruns in 31 years. If Bonds continues to play for a couple of years, he will surely surpass Ruth and Aaron, and probably raise the home run bar quite a few notches higher. As a matter of fact Barry is well on his way to these records, already hitting home run number 701 against the Padres' David Wells on Saturday.

Yankees in Baltimore on sombre anniversary

As the New York Yankees strolled out on the field at Camden Yards in Baltimore, their hearts were in New York as the city and country marked the 3rd anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center towers in lower Manhattan. The Yankees still continue to honor the memory of the September 11 victims, as they are now the only team in Major League Baseball that still plays "God Bless America" during the seventh-inning stretch of every home game. The terrorist attacks have had a huge impact on the team including the players, management and ownership.
